LE CORBUSIER Le Corbusier expone

The Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno – CAAM will present next 11th February 2011 the project LE CORBUSIER EXHIBITS, curated by María Isabel Navarro Segura, and coproduced with the Musée des Beaux Arts et d’Archéologie de Besançon (France).
Known as a painter, architect, city planner and art theorist, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, whose centenary was commemorated in 2010, made systematic contributions in the various facets of his work. As a counterbalance to the thrust of his creative diversity, Le Corbusier, the pseudonym he used for his activity as an architect from 1920 onwards, worked towards the goal of reconstituting a synthesis of the arts. He turned this synthesis into a reality in the museum, in the exhibition space, in the house for an artist or for an art collector. The driving motive behind this search is particularly visible in the concept of the 20th century exhibition space, to which Le Corbusier made significant contributions. In many ways, the museum is the true manifestation of modern architecture.
Through a selection of his foremost architectural projects dedicated to artistic activity and to exhibition spaces, it is possible to uncover the process that led to the creation of a new concept of architectural space, at once plastic and sensorial, associated with the phenomenology of perceptual dynamism. Since 1922, the beginning of his relationship with Raoul La Roche as a client, one could perceive the twofold direction of this search: Le Corbusier created the art collection for the banker and conceived Villa La Roche to house a cubist collection.
Meanwhile, Jeanneret continued his work as a painter and made his debut exhibition. Le Corbusier Exhibits explores his successive exhibition proposals by means of a reconstruction of the most significant exhibitions of his work. The evolution shows an overall vision of the purist concept associated with colour, the treatment of space and the presence of the work of art as the core axes of the exhibition project. The following phase, as seen in the exhibition at Louis Carré (Paris, 1935), revolves more around objects of poetic reaction, with associations on a domestic scale with varied objects, some of them objets trouvés. The move to the American stage in 1948 was the beginning of a phase dominated by the publicity dimension of the exhibition, which led to a succession of touring shows in America and Europe (Boston, 1948). The theoretical endeavours were consolidated in comparative experiments from the sketch to the finished painting (Denise René, Paris 1952). Modulor gave rise to new experiments (Lyon, 1956), and finally, its three-dimensional effects were rehearsed at MoMA (1963)...
The exhibition features original drawings of projects, maquettes and photographs; and also oil paintings, graphic works, sculptures, tapestries... They have all been treated to transmit the exhibition ideas of Charles-Edouard Jeannert, remembered as Le Corbusier.
The exhibition will be complemented with a bilingual Spanish-English publication at the CAAM and a bilingual French-English publication in Besançon.
On the other hand, the CAAM will host a conference cycle, that will enhance the exhibion project. This cycle started last 17th December, with the participation of Stanislaus von Moos and will continue during the exhibition period with the lectures of Serge Fauchereau (17th February), Enrique Granell (24th February), Emmanuel Guigon (24th March) and Maisa Navarro (7th April).
