Transverse writing: ideas and sansations of the artistic creation
    Rafael Argullol

    Thursday, 14th December, 20.00 hrs.
    Sala Polivalente. Free entrance.
    Modern Art Atlantic Centre (CAAM)

The CAAM offers in this pogramme the vision of several writers whose work wanders in a flexible way between the theoretical reflection and the literary creation. Culture and art studious and critics who, apart from fiction, use and work in the mixture of genres, making the stablished limits dissappear.

In the depths, the concept of transverse writing by Rafael Argullol- who the cycle starts with- through which its bounce to the deneric deadlock is evident. According to his own words: ‘The traditional idea of dualism in writing has never convinced me. It belongs to one of the greatest mistakes in Western way of thinking, separating ideas from feelings’.

‘What I understand by transverse writing is that type of artistic creation which goes beyond the ordinary genre classification. In that sense it implies a formal aspect, but also something substantial. In contrast to the common distinction between ideas and feelings, between the intelectual and the senses worlds, the writing which I deffend would try to break these borders which, somehow, have marked the Wetern artistic tradition. In other words: in the transverse writing, images and concepts are an indivisible unit.’

    Rafael Argullol (Barcelona, 1949)
Author of twentyfive titles among narrative, poetry and essays. He directs the “Instituto Universitario de Cultura de la Universidad de Pompeu Fabra” (Universitarian College of Culture in the Pompeu Fabra University) and is professor of Aesthetics and Arts Theory in the Arts Faculty in the same university. His work is focussed on a transverse writing breaking the literary genres (El cazador de instantes, El puente de fuego, Enciclopedia del crepúsculo, Breviario de la aurora, among others). He has won the Nadal Award with his novel La razón del mal (1993), and the Ensayo Award from the Fondo de Cultura Económica (Economical Culture Foundation) with Una educación sensorial (2002).
